Once upon a time there were some mice in a house. Most of the time they just ate drank and each tried to be as a merry mouse of the house. If there was some rice they were on it like mice on rice. Because they were....mice. That's just what they were, just nice lil' mice. For how could it be otherwise?
But these nice mice also had some prophets who came along sometimes and told them some things. These truly nice mice told them it wasn't always good to eat the rice and to watch out for poison and cats. They also told them of a mouse not of the house who could lead them to another and better one. This is how they knew these things. In fact, this mouse not of the house would come to the house as a mouse...yet he wasn't just a mouse.
Well, most of the mice were still on the rice like mice on rice when there was rice. Because they were mice, and it was...rice. That's just what they were. In their lil' mousy heads they squeaked, "We nice mice are mice. ....and well, we're nice! It's all nice."
The mouse not of the house did come and go....and he left behind more witnesses. In fact, they were more than before. So for a time many a mouse lived as if they were not of the house. Yet in due course, they were on the rice like mice on rice again. Again, they were just mice and so how could it be otherwise? Many of the mice would rise up and live like they were not a mouse of the house and then they would go back down because the nice rice, it tasted good! So they were subject to poison and cats. For when they got fat they could not run from the cat.
Before they were going to rise up here is what usually happened. One mouse would stop eating the nice rice and would wander, seeking more. This lil' mouse who came to know the house would not escape the house but would come back to tell the other mice about it. He would squeak, "It is not so hard to fight the cats that you fear. Just listen to them, always saying 'meow,' 'meow'.... They just go around saying 'ow' all the time. They only want milk, like lil' mouse babies. These are just prissy pussies, so scare them! I know that you cannot kill one like the mouse not of the house did and you have to be careful too. But maybe if you were not so lazy and actually wanted to follow that mouse then you could do more and more!"
But most of the mice just wanted their rice and became so fat that they didn't even seem like mice, which wasn't very nice.
