Meh... rambling, 6/18

The arms buildup comes at a time of increased Russia/NATO tensions over the Ukraine...

All bungled, right on down to the use of snipers.  Syria, bungled too.  With all this bungling and new alignments emerging, things look bad for American empire builders.

I don't agree that America needs a global empire, I'm just noting that the Grand Chessboard doesn't look that great now, if you're into that sort of thing.  Hopefully no one gets mad enough about their strategeries failing to try to flip the whole thing off the table because pawns usually fall off first.
Supposedly talking to the Saudis:
Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) with the Saudi Arabian Defence Minister, China’s first vice-premier of the State Council, the Prime Minister of Mongolia and the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as well as representatives of Russian business circles and the international investment community.
As far as I'm concerned he's welcome to have the Saudis as his proxy terrorist "allies in the region."  Just a few months ago I think they were pretty much openly threatening him with proxy terrism similar to what they did to US.

Sand People are all over the place:

Aug 27, 2013 - The Saudis really want Russia to step away from Syria, enough to offer money, ... Mafia-Style 'Protection' Against Terrorist Attacks At Sochi Olympics ... But there was a threat allegedly hidden in there right along with the fruit.)
One day they may be threatening, the next they're in alliance.  When they're not too busy with trying to award their pilots Bentleys.
