My niece, she's quite a writer. She could compete with the New Man because she knows the argument, "You makin' me cry!"

"First of all, almost every European in the 1500s was antisemitic, and so it is hard to criticize one man for having opinions that reflect his own time period (especially since we are subject to the same conditioning). Though they were wrong opinions to have."

I have always thought when dealing with revolutionary philosophers of their times that they are more responsible for their views than the average conditioned person who goes with pop-culture. Even an average philosopher in modern times is more responsible for their views than the MTVeee generation who are creatures of conditioning.

So take Luther, he was a revolutionary. Revolutionaries are not victims of their times, in any sense. If you are a revolutionary then you have transcended your time and look down upon it, calling for changes or advocating for preservation.

The second point you make is better, I believe. I came across Luther in reading history about the Nazis. Perhaps this is not the best way to come across Luther's writings. But your point that he was at least trying to deal with viewpoints is good. I.e., he did not medicalize it and advocate genocide on scientific grounds. That would be a scientific physical status rather than a religious metaphysical viewpoint.

It's been too long since I read his later writings but they seemed rather insane at the time I did read them. I would have to look it up again.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by, I do not know that much about Luther, specifically. Given the Reformation, on the whole, his impact was positive.

I just remember thinking some of the writings I came across sounded insane. Again, I'd have to look it up again.

Feel free to stop by again, your blog looks like all theology, all the time. Maybe you should take a break sometimes, or get linked up with a seminary.

Okay, I figured out the recent comments sidebar is not working because of any use of quotation marks.

Yep, blogger really needs one that is just integrated.

I wasted some time on that one. I'm going to bed.
