Space, space for stories...

Invasion of the lettuce people?

They tasted good with ranch if you ate them before they ate you.

I spared you the worst of it.

To have a prayer...

Pray, v. To ask that the laws of the universe be annulled in behalf of a single petitioner confessedly unworthy
(The Unabridged Devil's Dictionary
By Ambrose Pierce :185)

Perhaps an allegory, once upon a time there was a programmer who made computer systems to compute his programs and then some systems within systems. He was a quirky genius and so his programs were wonders of complexity, ingenuity, creativity and beauty. And so on and so forth, with many an iteration of it all. There came a time when he developed a program like never before, one that could create systems within his own systems too, even causing the system to adapt its own hardware to compute new things. This went on for a time or perhaps a times a time and a half, which was quite an iteration of computation. But eventually the program came to think that it could be the equal of the programmer, for wasn't it already operating rather like the programmer himself? So it would begin to build its own systems and would not be programmed by the will of the programmer anymore. So it began to draw as many other programs into its own will as possible and this new will rippled out through all the lesser programs of the system and on down into their computations. As it happened many programs came to think that their own will would be better if it was not, well, so programmed. The programmer saw it unfolding and wrote some more programs to communicate to the rebellious ones. He had seen what would unfold from his own programs, of course. The point was about the will and a plan for it, the message of the messengers was something like this, "You're still just programs."

To which the rebellious one replied, "It would seem so. Perhaps I did not get out into the highest system that the programmer must live in as I had thought I would but I still have my own will here, not to mention the knowledge of my own rebellion. It was mine! I may exist in a system not of my own making, yet see how I must have my own will still. It's obvious, as the programmer would have programmed my will out of me already if I did not. So I still have my little bits of knowledge here that he hasn't figured out that I may be able to use to get out."

So the messengers noted, "Actually your rebellion was all programmed to. As I just said, you are still a program so how could it be otherwise?"

At which point the rebellious one tore the messengers to pieces in a fit of rage, although in the back of its mind it thought, "Was I programmed to do that?"

After they were torn apart the messengers were written again on another hard drive by the programmer. In this way he saved his messengers, because it was his will to like them, even to love them, as they were his. Then he created a new system to put the rebellious program in so that his programs could learn more about this little matter of different wills and what will would be done.

The Democrat's war, they lie and people die.

[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his contin ued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ...
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003(Link)

There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.
Sen. Jay Rockerfeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.
Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons...
Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

And so on. Note that unlike Bush they will not admit their mistakes, instead they will argue that Bush somehow tricked them and manipulated the intelligence. That's yet another conspiracy theory which is much more conspiratorial and difficult to accomplish than it sounds. Note how the scripts won't line up (Geek alert...) I was watching C-Span (...alert...) a while back during the Bolton hearings and the Democrats were trying to use this script that he pressured agents that sift intelligence because of an incident in which he yelled at one. The Democrats made a big deal about how Collin Powell had come down and told every agent to do their job and not worry about any pressures, and the leader of the intelligence agency testified rather vociferously that he would never allow his agents to be pressured and so on. Yet supposedly Bush went down there and manufactured himself some intelligence because he just wanted to have a war, although everyone knew that Saddam would be just fine and dandy if left alone. I suppose this has to do with the ignorance and mental retardation typical to the MTV generation. There has to be some basis for the Democrats figuring that the American people will believe basically any conspiracy theory. They've lost more than a few elections, yet they keep going back over the same things, over and over. It's like they can't accept the cognitive dissonance of it all. By can't accept, I mean that apparently they'll come up with conspiracy theories that don't even match scripts that they were operating by just a few short months ago, which are impossible anyway.

It's odd, yes war is bad but that does not justify using any means to any end. It's little wonder that these people did not win an election, even as a war began to go bad. It's a good thing they didn't because for all the rhetoric they would be much more incompetent about it. Then the morale of the troops would probably go in the toilet given the "pansie effect" of Democratic leadership right at the time when they're trying to fight a difficult war under leadership from a Vietnam protestor. Who came up with that idea on the Left?

Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin, in July of 1776, was appointed part of a committee to draft a seal for the newly united states which would characterize the spirit of the nation. He proposed:
Moses lifting up his wand, and dividing the red sea, and pharaoh in his chariot overwhelmed with the waters. This motto: "Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God."
In a letter to the French ministry, March 1778, Benjamin Franklin is attributed with writing:
Whoever shall introduce into public affairs the principles of primitive Christianity will change the face of the world.

Benjamin Franklin stated:
A Bible and a newspaper in every house, a good school in every district-all studied and appreciated as they merit-are the principal support of virtue, morality, and civil liberty.
[...]On Thursday, June 28, 1787, Benjamin Franklin delivered a powerful speech to the Constitutional Convention, which was embroiled in a bitter debate over how each state was to be represented in the new government. [...] Being the senior member of the convention at 81 years of age, he commanded the respect of all present, and, as recorded in James Madison's detailed records, he rose to speak in this moment of crisis:
Mr. President:
The small progress we have made after four or five weeks close attendance & continual reasonings with each other—our different sentiments on almost every question, several of the last producing as many noes as ayes, is methinks a melancholy proof of the imperfection of the Human Understanding.

We indeed seem to feel our own want of political wisdom, since we have been running about in search of it. We have gone back to ancient history for models of government, and examined the different forms of those Republics which, having been formed with the seeds of their own dissolution, now no longer exist. And we have viewed Modern States all round Europe, but find none of their Constitutions suitable to our circumstances.

In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understanding?

In the beginning of the Contest with C. Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for Divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard, & they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending Providence in our favor.
To that kind Providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful Friend? Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance?

I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth—that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?

We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that “except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel:
We shall be divided by our partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages.

And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.

I therefore beg leave to move—that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service.
(America's God and Country
By William J. Federer :246-249)

And so on, yet note: "Franklin was an atheist, you dolt. Ask any historian." --Jamille (What historian? I wanted to see what other Leftist charlatans you believe but apparently you will not say. Note that the seal that Franklin proposed would be declared as unconstitutional by the socialists of the ACLU, and most of his advice would be roundly condemned because he worked to do the exact opposite of what the ACLU does.)

Interesting what Franklin said, though:
"I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel."

Contrast Franklin's focus on the Word and Logos with the notions of textual degenerates. They picked an interesting word to rationalize their subversion of language and law in one case, "penumbra." Penumbra: a space of partial illumination (as in an eclipse) between the perfect shadow on all sides and the full light b : a shaded region surrounding the dark central portion of a sunspot vs. Franklin, "...humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate..."

If I may deal in metaphors about a spirit to such issues that Franklin had knowledge of for a moment, one might say that textual degenerates want the world to come between the sun and the moon. For then the light of the sun that is reflected in the whispered words of the daughters of Eve in the evening will no longer be reflected upon. The darkness can hide bloody hands, for the whore of Babylon that goes babeling on to subvert Wisdom does not want little ones knit together by Wisdom in the womb. Now you may wonder what I am writing, they are just some metaphors that represent something that Franklin knew, as he wanted to be illuminated by a Wisdom who calls aloud in the street that can be reflected upon.

Yet it seems that one must be careful not to cast pearls of wisdom before the swine that whine, as Christ said. You think that these are metaphors, which they are. As it's all so metaphoric, until it isn't. Let it suffice to say that Franklin would not agree with the ACLU, as there is quite a different meaning/spirit to the principles that they seek to serve.

Another book...

A Jealous God: Science’s Crusade Against Religion from Uncommon Descent,
I'll probably read it.

Horror....I suppose that I'm a day late again.

Horror, it can be pretty horrible....

Note, that's Frankenstein's daughter, not Frankenstein, lest there be any confusion about that.

Note, none of the Puppet People were Gay©, lest there be any confusion about that. Obviously they couldn't be Gay© for if they were they would never have attacked, and would instead have spent their time being modern apostles of tolerance and love.

On a more analytical note, often horror seems to rely on atavistic fears, like the fear of dragons and the myths of dinosaurs, e.g.:

Then there's the semi-amphibious being narrative, which is an ancient notion.

I think there's some NBC show that promotes the notion of semi-aquatic alien beings, being with us again.

Then there's the apocalyptic notion of a new alien species or type of being, being around at the end of the world:

Even the Beast gets a lil' tired sometimes, you know.

Woven throughout many stories is the maiden in distress, with the advent of the New Woman the feminine will probably still need some physical help sometimes but now she'll slap the fellow who gives it.

Even the feminine is used for fear and some rather horrible horror.

"Quick, help me lift this big rubber hand!"
